TissueDB/Materials/Soma Foama 15
Soma Foama 15 is a two-part platinum-cure expanding silicone foam manufactured by Smooth-On, Inc. (Macungie, Pennsylvania, USA). It expands roughly two to three times its liquid volume during cure to form a soft, low-density, closed-cell silicone foam (Shore 00 hardness class). Typical uses include cushioning, insulating, and volumetric fill where a lightweight, compliant silicone is required. In medical simulation, expanding silicone foams of this kind provide bulk, compliance, and deformability for soft, low-density tissue analogues without the weight of a solid silicone. (Some sources spell the product name "SomaFoma 15" without a space.)
Tissues
| Tissue | Visual | Tactile | Simulator | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Skin and Subcutaneous Tissue (middle layer) | Yes | Yes | Brannan Chest Tube Simulator | Per Brannan 2021: "the middle SmoothOn's expanding silicone foam SomaFoma15." Centre layer of a three-layer silicone laminate providing subcutaneous-tissue bulk and compliance between the outer (Ecoflex 00-30) and inner (Dragon Skin 10) skin layers. Layer thickness, pour depth, and expansion ratio in the final build are not specified in the source paper.[1] |
Used In Simulators
