TissueDB/Tissues/Cricothyroid Membrane

From Appropedia

The cricothyroid membrane is the fibrous membrane connecting the thyroid cartilage to the cricoid cartilage. It is the target incision site for emergency cricothyrotomy, providing rapid surgical access to the airway. This stub page requires expert review and content enhancement.

Materials

Material Visual Tactile Simulator Notes
Compliant foam D'Auria Cricothyrotomy Simulator Foam rings positioned between 3D-printed cartilages; incision site for cricothyrotomy
3M Microfoam tape, 3-inch (approximately 7.6 cm) Muller Cricothyrotomy Simulator 3-inch (approximately 7.6 cm) Microfoam tape patch adhered to the internal laryngeal insert (modular removable component of the Strategic Operations 3-in-1 TCCC manikin) — provides the cuttable surface the trainee must incise to reach the simulated airway (Muller et al. 2020, p. e1781).
3M Microfoam tape, 3-inch (approximately 7.6 cm) Kei REAL CRIC Trainer 3-inch (approximately 7.6 cm) Microfoam tape laid across the cricothyroid-membrane gap of the 3D-printed laryngotracheal model — the cuttable membrane proxy the trainee must incise to reach the airway (Kei et al. 2019). Duct tape, gaffer's tape, or 3M Tegaderm are named alternatives if Microfoam is unavailable. Fresh patch applied each reset.
Medical-grade silicone Gauger Cricothyroidotomy Trainer Target structure for 14-gauge Ravussin needle insertion; integrated region of 3D-printed medical-grade silicone laryngotracheal model.
Silicone Shore 45 Partial Partial Kovatch Pediatric FONA Simulator Procedural target for needle cricothyroidotomy in pediatric (5-year-old) airway model; experts rated tissue "softness" 3.17 on the 4-point scale, lowest-scoring item in content validation.[1]
Stratasys Agilus30 Yes Partial Paediatric Airway Management Trainer (Carter) Front-of-neck access target for emergency cricothyrotomy / CICO scenarios in the multi-property J750 paediatric tracheobronchial print (CT-derived from a 4 kg five-month-old infant); single-piece print in Stratasys Agilus30 photopolymer at 14-micron layers.[2]
