Advice on CCAT solar shower[edit]

Hey,

Nice work so far. Here is some advice:

  1. The reason for the dotted line around the text is the spaces before the text. The wiki automatically makes a box around text that is preceded by a space on a new line.
  2. For the categories use the square brackets without the Tlc, e.g. "[[Category:Solar hot water]]" instead of " {{Tlc|Solar_hot_water}}".

Keep up the great work, --Lonny 22:28, 1 March 2008 (PST)

Lonny,
Thanx for the advice, I think I am getting the hang of this so far. I will try the tables soon. I
did the preformatted text because it looked cool :-) , is that ok?
please check out the page and let me know what you think.

Hi David,
The page is looking great. I do like the formatted boxes that you are using, unfortunately they are generally frowned upon because they do not adapt to different screen sizes. This means that some of our readers, especially those in developing countries, with small monitors may not be able to read part of the page. It also makes it harder to edit with changing the formatting. Often on a wiki we exchange style for content, which leaves it sometimes less attractive but ultimately more accessible. Feel free to leave it as you have it and see if others come to change it.
Two other small changes. Take out the [[CCAT solar shower]] at the top of the page and add in a {{CCATpage}} at the bottom (just above the categories). Thank you and keep up the great work.

Lonny,

I made the changes that you mentioned. Is there a way to indent each paragraph? Also, is inline css (cascading style sheets) available to put within the code?

thank you - Sendog6913 18:47, 2 March 2008 (PST)

Hi David,
Thanks for making the changes. I made a few more changes that are pretty small (took out some extra spaces and added a tag that states that a photo is needed). I also added headings, which is the typical way that a wiki page is formatted. This makes for easier reading, finding of information and editing (you can edit each section separately). Please feel free to revert that change if you do not like it.
To indent a paragraph use a colon. To indent just the first line of the paragraph, you will need to be creative, but hopefully the headings I added will make indenting unnecessary.
About the inline css. There are some features that you can use such as bold, italic, table tags (Help:Tables) and many image tags (Help:Images). In addition, you can use some inline CSS especially in tables (Help:Table_examples). Please feel free to try what you like and others (me) will come by and make comments.
Keep up the great work, --Lonny 23:21, 2 March 2008 (PST)

Porting[edit]

Hi Sendog6913,

Welcome to Appropedia!

I'm not sure how you're converting formatting, but there are conversion tools (i.e. you don't need to do it all manually). In case you need info, see Appropedia:Porting formatted content to MediaWiki.

If you have questions, please contact me. --Chriswaterguy · talk 06:41, 3 March 2008 (PST)

Table Practice[edit]

Lonny,
hey there, I have transfered the [CCAT human powered belt sander]" using tables. please check it out and let me know your thoughts.
- D

Hi D,

The page, CCAT human powered belt sander looks great! Awesome work with the tables. Adding in the headers really looks good. If you want to work on the pdfs, check out Help:Porting_PDF_files_to_MediaWiki and feel free to ask for advice at User:Fatima's or User:Chriswaterguy's talk page. They both have great experience porting pdfs.

Thank you and keep up the great work, --Lonny 00:33, 11 March 2008 (PDT)

Excel Sheets[edit]

Lonny, hello there, sorry that I havent been active lately. I am having trouble finding the help page that helps you transfer excel sheets into wikimedia. I remember that you went to a page where you could just copy the table and paste it on the page and it will convert it for you. Is it possible that you could post that link?

thank you, - D

Help:Table examples has that link. Enjoy, --Lonny 10:31, 4 April 2008 (PDT)

New pages[edit]

Hope finals treated you well. I am looking forward to seeing more CCAT transfers. Here are some more easy to transfer pages:

Please let me know if you need anything.

Thank you, --Lonny 18:36, 14 May 2008 (PDT)

More pages[edit]

As you requested, here are some more CCAT pages to port. Check out the table I made at CCAT_pedal_powered_innovations for displaying all of the CCAT pedal powered innovations (please add the laptop below... if you can find the images). As always, ask if you need any help and keep up the amazing work. Do you have the pages that you added on your watchlist so you notice the changes that I make?

Thank you, --Lonny 05:19, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

New Pages[edit]

Lonny,

thank you for the list. I saw the table you made for the CCAT Innovations, it looks great, I dont know why I didnt think about that lol.

I have all the pages I have made in my watch list, although I do not remember getting an e-mail about the change. Maybe I missed it.

- D

Finished all the pages[edit]

Lonny,

I just finished porting the pages on your list. I will be updating the links from the ccat website so that they can point to the ones in appropedia.

Whenever you get a chance, I am ready for the next list :-)
