Liquid Cartographies is a project of EUNIC El Salvador, made up of the Cultural Center of Spain in El Salvador, the Alliance Française in El Salvador, the Delegation of the European Union in El Salvador, the Dante Alighieri Society and the Salvadoran-German Cultural Forum; in collaboration with the UNDP Acceleration Laboratory in El Salvador.

Description

Liquid Cartographies is an environmental impact project developed in El Salvador, with the aim of generating spaces for collective creation that result in products, processes and artistic practices whose purpose is to produce knowledge, enable new meanings and narratives about the environment, ecology and agroecology, climate change, memory and territory.

The ultimate goal of this project is to broaden the reach of voices working for the environment, outline a reinforcement for public knowledge about the impacts of the climate crisis and contribute to the protection of natural heritage with a human rights approach.

Climate change is having devastating consequences around the world. Central America has historically been vulnerable to natural disasters (earthquakes, hurricanes, landslides and floods) and is under environmental threat due to extractive economic models that exploit natural resources. We believe that culture and digital transformation can help transform the Salvadoran economy and society, creating new tools and measures for adaptation and mitigation against the effects of climate change.

Liquid Cartographies has three components: Tunantal, a map of environmental initiatives led by the Vivero de Iniciativas Ciudadanas (Spain), an artistic and creative residency whose main objective is to strengthen and make visible Salvadoran environmental organizations and generate greater awareness about climate change through artistic practices and an exhibition, the result of this artistic production work.
