Description[edit | edit source]

The drivetrain assembly on Growbot is a simple chain and gear setup, similar to something one would find on a bicycle. The gears are set up to run a 8mm pitch roller chain, with a 72-tooth driven gear and a 9-tooth drive gear. This setup provides a torque focused design that puts less stress on the motors since each needs to drive its own separate side. The axle assemblies bolt into the frame directly with 2 bolts and t-nut, allowing for easy adjustments to be made to straighten the hubs. The 9-tooth drive gear sits on the shaft of the motor, held in with a 3mm bolt directed through the side of the gear. The entire unit is brought together with a chain guide and tension mechanism that sits directly in between the axle assemblies on either side. This ensures that the chain stays on the gears and does not jump teeth under load.
