TissueDB/Simulators/Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Simulator

The Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Simulator is a low-cost training module built from locally available materials for practising laparoscopic cholecystectomy.[1] The developer module supplies the shopping list, cutting templates and expert paradigm video. The completed target module is used inside the Laparoscopic Box Trainer Simulator.

The ALL-SAFE Gallbladder Disease module provides:

The source does not provide a complete enumerated written construction procedure.
Do not reconstruct or invent step-by-step assembly instructions from the finished image, related ALL-SAFE modules, or general anatomical knowledge.

Construction
Construct the gallbladder-disease target module using the developer shopping list, the appropriate cutting template and the expert paradigm video.
The source materials include:

- sand, with sawdust or ground coffee as alternatives;
- three modeling balloons — red, green and blue — with a drinking straw as an alternative;
- cotton balls or cotton rolls;
- one non-woven shoe bag or small pillow case;
- Press'n Seal or plastic cling wrap;
- yarn;
- transparent tape;
- stapler or needle and thread;
- A4 paper or a paper plate;
- one surgical glove or specialty bag;
- one suture tie; and
- scissors.
The exact assembly sequence must be taken from the source templates/video rather than recreated as unsupported prose.
Use
Place the completed gallbladder target module inside the Laparoscopic Box Trainer Simulator.
Use the source-listed reusable laparoscopic instrument set for the training exercise.
Anatomy and role boundaries
- The medium green balloon directly represents the Gallbladder.
- No source establishes the non-woven shoe bag as Gallbladder Wall.
- Do not create a shoe-bag → Gallbladder Wall relationship.
- Scissors are a construction tool, not a structural simulator component.
- Sand, cotton, plastic film, yarn, tape, paper, glove, suture and fasteners retain their source build roles without invented anatomy.
- Press'n Seal / plastic cling wrap wording remains source-specific; broader Plastic Film class architecture is a separate governance matter.
- The box trainer is a separate reusable host platform and not part of this target module's anatomy.
Cost boundary
The ALL-SAFE developer shopping list contains no prices.
The former per-row US-dollar values and approximately US$50 total were May 2026 retail estimates, not source-reported costs. They are therefore removed from the canonical Cost field and material rows.
Kim et al. (2025) separately describes the evaluated cholecystectomy simulation setup as low-cost and reports a materials-cost scope below US$10. That later study value must not be combined with the May 2026 retail estimate or treated as a replacement itemized shopping-list price without preserving its own study scope.
Evidence boundary
Kim et al. (2025) provides module-specific psychomotor/proficiency evidence through CHOLE-VOP.
The later 2026 ALL-SAFE studies provide broader curriculum/platform outcome evidence.
These evidence sources do not:
- rewrite the developer BOM;
- establish new material-anatomy relationships;
- prove physical tissue fidelity of every component; or
- establish that observational changes in operative activity were caused solely by this physical simulator.
