Sand is a granular material. In medical simulation it is packed into other materials: mixed with vegetable oil inside plastic-pipe segments as bone medulla,[1] and packed tightly into a glove finger to form the appendix.[2] It is also listed as a filling material for a laparoscopic cholecystectomy model, with sawdust or ground coffee as alternatives.[3]
