Operation & Procedure
[edit | edit source]This machine is designed for shredding and granulating materials into particles. It operates through a two-stage process; a shredder and granulator.
Stage 1: Shredder
In the first stage, the material is fed into the shredder, where larger pieces are reduced to smaller fragments. The shredder is made of rotating blades made of A2 hardened steel, which are 0.25 inches wide, and reversible fixed blades made from 0.50-inch thick 4140 steel plate. The shredder can handle materials with a minimum thickness of approximately 0.030 inches and a maximum particle size of 3 inches. As the material passes through the shredder, it is cut down to a more manageable size for the next stage.
Stage 2: Granulator
After shredding, the material enters the granulator for further processing. The granulator works by reducing the shredded particles to an extrudable size with a rotating drum. The drum is equipped with cutting teeth made from 17-4 SS hardened steel, with each tooth measuring 0.20 inches by 0.20 inches. The granulator has reversible fixed blades made of 0.50-inch 4140 steel plate. This stage is designed to process materials to a maximum particle size of 1/2 inch, ensuring that the final output is of uniform size and ready for extrusion.
To make sure that the machine operates efficiently, the material should not be overloaded in each batch. To prevent clogging in the output pipe, it is critical to allow material from the previous batch to fully exit the machine before reloading.
Operation Tips
[edit | edit source]- If parts are too long or too flat, they may not properly engage with the blades and may not shred effectively.
- If the part infill is high, it takes more time to shred and produces more material than expected.
- Do not stop the shredder until nothing comes out or you hear an unusual sound.
- If you observe that parts are melting and sticking together, stop the shredder and allow the blades to cool, as this reduces effectiveness.
- If the shredder is powered but does not start, it may be due to overheating, as it protects itself.
- After each use of the shredder, check if any material is stuck in the blades.
