SLA resin printing:FAST

From Appropedia

This is a description of the page.

Safety Training Requirements

[edit | edit source]

Safety Issues With Method

[edit | edit source]

SLA printing requires UV-A light. Use protective lids to prevent direct UV-A exposure with skin and eyes.

Post-processing with 99.9% IPA must be done under a fume hood.

Personal protective equipment

[edit | edit source]

PPE is to keep YOU safe so that you can keep doing what you want to do.

  1. UV-protective glasses
  2. Latex gloves
  3. Close-toed shoes

SDS and other

[edit | edit source]

Knowing what chemicals are in the lab and how they interact with each other is critical when accidents happen.

  1. Elegoo Photopolymer resin SDS:https://gzhls.at/blob/ldb/d/0/9/2/75b7bef452a254ca4c3d96ec9124dee5c8a9.pdf

Equipment Name

Prusa SL1S Speed resin vat and printing bed.
  1. TEB 6
  2. Prusa SL1S Speed
  3. Elegoo Saturn 4
  4. Prusa CW1S Curing and Washing Machine
  5. Elegoo Mercury Plus 2.0 Curing and Washing Machine
  6. UV flashlight

Operation & Procedure

[edit | edit source]

Starting a print:

  1. Thoroughly clean the vat and bed with gentle soap and water. Dry with a microfibre towel.
  2. Install the bed and load the resin vat with SLA resin. Do not expose the resin to UV light.
  3. Close the SLA printer lid and select the desired file from the attached USB.

Post-processing:

  1. Use a metal scraper to gently remove the print from the print bed. If resin is cured to the vat, place the vat on a hard surface and gently peel the cured resin from the plastic with a plastic scraper.
  2. Place the print in the 99.9% IPA bath and wash for 10-20 minutes.
  3. Remove the prints from the IPA bath under the fume hood and let air-dry completely.
  4. Place the prints in the curing machines and cure under UV light for 10-20 minutes.

Shutdown and Disposal

[edit | edit source]
  1. Use a funnel and strainer to pour the leftover SLA resin into a separate UV-protective glass bottle. Ensure the bottle is labeled with the type of resin.
  2. Wipe bed with 99.9% IPA.
  3. Wash bed and vat with gentle soap and water. Dry with a microfibre cloth.
  4. Turn off the SLA printer using the switch on the side (Elegoo) or back (Prusa).

Disposing of waste resin:

  1. Use a silicon tray to hold small amounts of resin. Use a UV flashlight to cure layers of resin. Post-process the cured layers of resin to ensure that it is fully cured. It is extremely important to wear UV-protectant PPE when operating the UV flashlight.
