Muscle is contractile tissue encountered in the abdominal wall during open surgical approaches, relevant to dissection and layered anatomy simulation.

Materials

Sponge wrapped in white stretchy fabric (fascia) Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Repair Simulator (Kurashima) Sponges of varying thicknesses simulate the muscle layers on the multilayer insert. White stretchy fabric wraps around each layer to create the fascia. The source states the insert has five layers in total. The source does not say how many are muscle, nor their thickness. 3D-printed heart (filament not specified in source) Chest Tube Insertion Simulator (Brannan) Anatomically realistic 3D-printed heart set inside the thorax model; it is visible after pleural penetration and serves as an anatomical landmark. The heart stand-in resolves to the Muscle class via the Heart redirect (no dedicated Heart class yet).[1]
