MOST Delta Performance Mod[edit | edit source]

Project developed by Alicia Steele

Abstract[edit | edit source]

The majority of early print failures I encountered were results of the filament not spooling into the printer correctly. Possible failures include tangling and breaking of filament. If the filament becomes tangled enough, or even crossed over on the spool, when the spool is mounted external to the printer a special case of problem is created. As the extruder motor tries to feed filament in, the printer can be dragged toward the entangled filament and eventually by dragged off the table...falling melzi board first towards the floor.

In order to prevent this disaster I wanted a filament spooler that was attached to the printer, and that could easily accomodate different types of spools. Most undermounted spoolers available were specific to one brand of filament.

  • Using this enclosure, ABS and nylon are now within reach of any MOST Delta builder with a simple modification that can be completed in the average dorm room.

Brand Compatibility[edit | edit source]

  • Zeni Kinetic
  • Hatchbox
  • Jet
  • Filament Outlet
  • Filamex

Bill of Materials[edit | edit source]

  1. pla filament
  2. Z608 bearings (2)
  3. 5/16" shaft collars (2)
  4. 5/15" steel rod (12")

Technical Specifications and Assembly Instructions[edit | edit source]

  • Total assembly time is roughly one hour..

Assembly Instructions[edit | edit source]

  1. Print Parts
  2. Press Bearing In
  3. Drill 5/16" hole in top piece of plywood
  4. Assemble

Results[edit | edit source]

The resulting spooler works for at least 10 brands of filaments and spools filament flawlessly into printer.
