TissueDB/Structures/Torso

From Appropedia

Torso is the trunk of the body, including the chest, abdomen and pelvic region.[1] This page links selected tissues of its body walls and cavity linings.

The Keller REBOA simulator uses an adult simulated torso to house its vascular circuit and arterial access points and to provide external landmarks for balloon placement.[2] The tissue entries below describe human anatomy. They do not assert that this mannequin reproduces each listed tissue.

Component Tissues

Tissue Layer/Position Key Properties
SkinSurface coveringEpidermis over dermis; the subcutaneous layer lies beneath.[3]
Adipose tissueSubcutaneous layer beneath the skinFat-storing tissue that cushions and insulates underlying structures.[3]
FasciaBeneath the subcutaneous layer and around muscles; includes the abdominal rectus sheathFibrous connective tissue; the rectus sheath encloses the rectus abdominis muscles.[3][4]
MuscleAbdominal wall and spaces between the ribsSkeletal muscles move the trunk and help change the dimensions of the chest during breathing.[4]
BoneRibs, sternum and thoracic vertebraeRigid, mineralized connective tissue forming the bony thoracic framework.[5][6]
CartilageCostal cartilages at the anterior ends of the ribsHyaline cartilage; most ribs attach to the sternum through these cartilages.[5]
Parietal peritoneumInner lining of the abdominopelvic cavity wallSerous membrane lining the cavity wall.[1]
