Charity for Rural Community Development (CRUCDEV)

CRUCDEV is a grassroots non-profit that has empowered children, women, and youth in rural Cameroon through vocational skills training, education, and community support since 2011.

Founded in Tombel, Southwest Cameroon, in 2011, CRUCDEV is a formally authorized non-profit dedicated to children, youth, women, and community development through skills-based training, education, and direct empowerment.

They believe poverty is not simply a lack of money; it is a lack of access. Access to books. To tools. To skills. To knowledge. CRUCDEV bridges that gap, supported by 12 international partner organizations across the USA, UK, Germany, and Africa.

Officially authorized by Prefectural Decree No. 233/AR/G42/162/AJPS, CRUCDEV has since grown from a local initiative into an internationally partnered organization.

From establishing a tailoring training centre for young women, to stocking the Tombel Public Library with donated books, to gifting school bags to children who had none, every action CRUCDEV takes is driven by a single belief: every person deserves the tools to build their own future.

The organization has four community-centred programs designed to break cycles of poverty; through skills, books, environmental action, and direct support to the most vulnerable in rural Cameroon.

In Cameroon, many young people, especially women, lack access to formal employment or the skills to create their own livelihood. CRUCDEV’s Vocational Training Program addresses this directly, providing hands-on, practical skills training that opens doors to economic independence.

Operating through their Community Empowerment Center, supported in partnership with the High Five Club and CRUCDEV-Cameroon, trainees learn tailoring, use of industrial sewing machines, carpentry, and other marketable trades in a structured, supportive environment.

Rural communities in South West Cameroon depend deeply on their natural environment, yet deforestation, soil erosion, and food insecurity threaten their way of life. CRUCDEV’s Green School Initiative responds by embedding environmental education and tree planting directly into the fabric of rural schools and communities.

Beyond the schools, CRUCDEV works with women’s farming groups, supplying tools, watering equipment, and agricultural knowledge to help families achieve food security and generate sustainable income from the land.

Across rural South West Cameroon, many primary schools have no library, and many children have never owned a book. CRUCDEV’s School Library Establishment Program partners with international book aid organizations to change this, supplying donated books to schools and establishing permanent reading resources for communities.

The flagship Tombel Public Library Book Feeding Project supplies the local public library with textbooks and reference materials, creating a shared resource for students, teachers, and the wider community in Tombel town.

Many children in rural Cameroon attend school without the most basic supplies; no bag to carry their books, no stationery, no reading materials. CRUCDEV’s Educational Outreach Program takes direct action: their team visits rural schools and villages, distributing supplies that make the difference between a child staying in school or dropping out.

These educational visitations are about more than supplies; they are moments of encouragement, dignity, and connection. Every visit reminds a child that they matter and that their education is valued.

The Peng Primary Health Post is a rural community health infrastructure project being implemented by CRUCDEV to improve access to basic healthcare for people living in Peng and surrounding communities in the South West Region of Cameroon.
