Fidelity notes and tissue selection

[edit | edit source]
Developer instructions

Describe any critical recommendations to guarantee the simulator's fidelity according to the design.

N/A for the laparoscopic box. Refer to the documentation of each target tissue to note their fidelity considerations and tissue selection.

Developer instructions

Upload all files to our platform using Special:UploadWizard or add to an open repository such as GitHub or GitLab (do not use Google Drive or Dropbox).

Download and print the following templates for guidance.

  • A4 template PDF
  • US Letter template PDF
  • Measurement Guide PDF
  • Part A - 2 pieces
  • Part B - 1 piece
  • Part C - 1 piece
  • Part D - 1 piece
  • Part E - 1 piece

Fabrication instructions

[edit | edit source]
Developer instructions

Text instructions should be thorough. Use videos and other materials as a complement, not a substitute.

Note

Print these PDF files without borders or margins and at a scale of 100%. Verify each measure after printing and adjust the scale using cross-multiplication. This will ensure that the printed templates are correctly sized. After printing them, cut out any outer margins and tape them together to form the fully sized template. You can also draw the templates using the measurement guide PDF for all pieces.

Before starting print all templates (Parts A, B, C, D, E). There are two different files–one that allows the templates to be printed on 4 separate pages of A4 sized paper, and one that allows the templates to be printed on 4 separate pages of US letter sized paper. Please use the file that corresponds to your printer page size.

1

Use straight pins to secure the paper templates onto the pieces of cardboard

2

Make sure you mark each piece with its corresponding letter so it is easier to assemble. Use a box cutter/utility knife/scalpel, and a ruler to cut out each of the templates until you have all six pieces ready to be assembled

Note

For Part D corrugation direction is important when orienting the template. The corrugation should be oriented front to back as seen in the figure below.

Assembly

[edit | edit source]
1

Use tape to attach the two Part A pieces to Part C. The Part A pieces will form the sides of the Laparoscopic trainer box, while the Part C piece will form the back wall. Make sure both Part A pieces are assembled on the inside of Part C. Tape both the outside and inside corners.

2

Loop 3 rubber bands together to form a strand and thread the strand through both holes of Part B. Tie the rubber band strand using a normal knot.

3

Take Part E and place it into the corresponding slits in Part B and Part D. Part E forms the angled work surface, while Part B is the front wall of the Laparoscopic trainer box and Part D is the top.

4

Place the side tabs of Part E into the corresponding angled slits in both Part A pieces. Part D sits on top of Part A and Part C. Make sure both Part A pieces are attached to the inside of Part B. Tape all pieces together.

5

Loop two rubber bands together and place one rubber band in the top rectangular cutouts of Part E

Quality verification
