[edit | edit source]These training modules are developed by the The Johns Hopkins Center for Bioengineering Innovation and Design (CBID) for the Surgical Education Learners Forum.

The Center for Bioengineering Innovation and Design (CBID) at Johns Hopkins University is an interdisciplinary graduate program that trains engineers, clinicians, and designers to develop innovative medical technologies that address critical unmet healthcare needs.

ALL-SAFE is an international collaboration of surgeons and scientists to teach surgeons in the low-resource setting to perform laparoscopic surgery without special training equipment and a physical teacher.
ALL-SAFE was selected as a Grand Prize Winner for the Global Surgical Training Challenge, a collaboration among Nesta Challenges, The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, MIT Solve, Appropedia Foundation and Intuitive Foundation.
Because of the overwhelming success of these courses and the ALL-SAFE training system, the president of the West African College of Surgeons, Prof Emmanual R. Ezeome, announced that they would now adopt ALL-SAFE as its primary laparoscopic training platform and require it at its training sites.

The Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (STARS) - Cervical Cancer Screening and Treatment module allows nurses, midwives, clinical officers, and medical officers to become confident and competent in performing visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA), and thermal ablation of cervical pre-cancer lesions as part of cervical cancer screening and treatment procedures provided in primary health care facilities and mobile units in resource-constrained settings.

The Surgical Education Learners Forum, or SELF, develops and evaluates training modules for health care workers in low-resource settings. SELF training enables anyone to independently learn and self-assess specific skills. SELF training modules are free-to-use and publicly available.
SELF is an evolution of the Global Surgical Training Challenge, which funded the development of surgical training modules that allow practitioners to learn, practice, and self-assess specific surgical skills without supervision from a more experienced surgeon. The training modules are available for free on Appropedia.
