Nasal lining is the mucosal layer covering the nasal surface of the palate and the floor of the nasal cavity above it.
In cleft palate repair it is the layer closed first, deep to the oral layer, and it is the layer most easily lost. The one published analogue that models it warns that the nasal mucosa is very thin and that the surgeon should avoid making holes in it while lifting the palatal muscle off it, and it leaves a cuff of muscle attached to the nasal layer for that reason. Its suture line is closed with the knots on the deep surface — at the nasal floor rather than within the cleft palate. The same guide records a fidelity limit worth knowing before building an analogue: in a real cleft the surgeon sees a colour difference between the oral and the nasal mucosa at the cleft margin, and the silicone cartridge does not reproduce it.[1][2]
