Lip (labium oris) is the muscular, mucosa-lined fold that forms the anterior boundary of the oral cavity.
In infant cleft palate repair the lip is not itself repaired, but it bounds the operative field: the palate is approached through the mouth, so the lip and the mandible together set how much room the surgeon has. The one published analogue that models it does so as a cast silicone part of a disposable soft-tissue cartridge, labelled Lip on the source's own orientation diagram, on a simulator whose difficulty is graded by an adjustable mandibular component rather than by the lip.[1][2]
