Simple restoration of a rusty lump hammer bought in a job lot of old tools. A page showing the process.

Getting rid of rust
Angle grinder, 40 grit flapper wheel, and a portable 4" vice with soft jaws. Goodbye rust.

Re-wedging
Filling any holes with hardwood wedge offcuts. Always best to add a ring wedge or two. No one likes a loose hammer head.

Paint job
Paint all the metal except the striking face.

Finishing
Sand off any paint (new or historic) and re-oil the wood. I just used a Danish oil rag I had lying around in a jar.
