We've had a number of online Appropedia Jams, and some in person in Arcata.

For the time being, the online jams are not being held. If you'd like to organize and promote the jams, please leave a message at User talk:Chriswaterguy.

This is a monthly editing "jam" with internet chat - we get together online (and in person where possible) and edit articles, help each other out, ask and answer questions, and talk about Appropedia. As this is new, we may try out different chat tools, so check here for details each month. You can also join the Appropedia Working Group to help with planning.

Joining the channel[edit | edit source]

Easiest option for connecting to IRC: enter via the Freenode Web Chat. Enter a username and connect.

If you already have an IRC client (desktop app), connect to #appropedia on Freenode.net. See Appropedia:IRC for advanced options.

See Appropedia:IRC if you need more info or suggestions for clients to use. Www.meurantei.com

Updating[edit source]

This needs to be updated after each edit jam. I'll take this on for now - by making a consistent time it'll be fairly straightforward. I also put instructions as hidden comments in the "Next Appropedia Jam" section.

The time in your time zone link seems useful but (a) it's a bit fiddly, and (b) if someone has their clock set wrongly on their device, they could look at "Your Time On this Computer / Device" and still get it wrong. If you find a better solution, please tell.

After {{date}}W is imported, we could make a template called {{time and countdown}} (or similar) so that updating in one place would take care of the date/time display and the countdown. Possibly even show time in different timezones...? --Chriswaterguy 17:08, 11 December 2012 (PST)

Name?[edit source]

  • Appropedia Jam?
  • Appropedia Edit Jam?
  • Appropedia Working Group Jam? (Not quite right - sounds a bit exclusive.)

Calendar[edit source]

It's probably possible for someone in the US or Western Europe to create a calendar with this jam as a recurring event, as GMT. I can't do it easily and have wasted too much time on it. Doing it from here (where the event occurs on Mon morning), Google calendar insists on repeating it on Monday GMT.

If someone wants to set up such a calendar, let me know. For now I'm removing this:

Tips':
  • If you're in a timezone that uses daylight saving, or if you sometimes change timezones, then adding the event as a recurring event can be very difficult in Google Calendar. Instead, subscribe to this calendar: Appropedia online events. (Click the "Add this calendar" button, bottom right. This should add the event to your calendar in your correct local time each month. It may adds a grey GMT timescale to your calendar... but hopefully not!)
