Background

The Humboldt State University Dominicana Program is working with the neighborhood of La Yuca in the Dominican Republic for the summer of 2011. Within Dominican Republic, families are required to buy clean potable water delivered in 5 gallon jugs due to the pathogen contamination of tap water. This cost increases economic burdens upon families as well as creates large amounts of waste.

Problem

Our goal is to mitigate the communities dependence on buying 5 gallon jugs or bottled water by building a rainwater catchment system that will bring potable water to the community and empower the community to replicate the system.
