Weather versus climate

From Appropedia

When learning about climate change, weather systems and how the climate works, it is important to understand that there is a difference between weather and climate. While this seems obvious, many people mix up the two concepts and they are not the same.

To remember the difference, realize that it is basically a difference of time.[1]

  • Climate: This is the long-term average pattern of weather in one place or region. This is concerned with how the climate acts over long periods of time.[1]
  • Weather: This is the short-term variation in the long-term climate. The atmospheric conditions are short lived.[1]

When the climate changes, the weather changes too.
