Hello!
My name is Emily Wu. I am a 2nd year Mechatronics + AISE Engineering student at Western University with a passion for helping make the world more sustainable and accessible!
In 2024-2025, for my ES1050 course I worked with my 7-member engineering student team to develop an environmentally sustainable, cost effective, and and safe design concept for the FAST (Free Appropriate Sustainability Technology) group. The Cup Punch Automation System is an automation machine that helps prepare the cups required for vertical farming more efficiently and consistently, to meet the increasing demand for food in communities.
During the summer of 2025, I had the exciting opportunity of participating in undergraduate research at the The Wearable Biomechatronics Laboratory in Western University under the supervision of Dr. Ana Luisa Trejos. One project I worked on with a member of the lab was "From Threads to Muscles: Braided Twisted Coiled Actuators", and the overall experience taught me a lot about research and further shaped my growth as an engineering student. This opportunity was supported by the NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA).
