Fascia refers to bands or sheets of connective tissue, primarily collagen, beneath the skin that enclose and separate muscles and organs; in simulation, it is the primary load-bearing layer for suture practice.
Materials
| Material | Visual | Tactile | Simulator | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| White Felt | Partial | Partial | Trocar Placement Trainer | 15×15 cm square; packing tape on both sides simulates fascial rigidity |
| Foam Fabric | Partial | Partial | Z-Plasty Simulator | Traditional Felt variant; 1 piece 12×12×2 mm |
| Plastic Wrap | Appendectomy Simulator | Scarpa's fascia; between subcutaneous fat and deep fatty layer | ||
| Cotton Fabric | Appendectomy Simulator | Anterior abdominal wall; 12 cm × 22 cm (4.7 in × 8.7 in) | ||
| Plastic Wrap | Appendectomy Simulator | Scarpa's fascia layer; 12 cm × 22 cm cut larger than other layers; trim at end of assembly. | ||
| Cotton Fabric | Appendectomy Simulator | Aponeurosis layer; 12 cm × 22 cm. | ||
| Packing Tape | Trocar Placement Trainer | Adhered as strips covering both sides of 15 × 15 cm white felt fascia layer; provides fascial rigidity. | ||
| Plastic Wrap (Scarpa's fascia) | Open Appendectomy Simulator (Matthews) | Plastic-wrap sheet between superficial and deep subcutaneous-fat layers, representing Scarpa's fascia. | ||
| Cotton Fabric (external oblique aponeurosis) | Open Appendectomy Simulator (Matthews) | Cotton-fabric sheet representing the external oblique aponeurosis between the deep fat layer and the external oblique muscle. | ||
| White stretchy fabric | Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Repair Simulator (Kurashima) | White stretchy fabric wrapped around each muscle sponge layer to create the fascia on the disposable multilayer insert.
