Clinical Context for Simulation
Ligaments are dense fibrous bands that connect bone to bone and stabilise joints, limiting excessive or abnormal motion. In current TissueDB simulators ligaments appear chiefly as anatomic landmarks that trainees must identify and preserve rather than as the direct target of repair — for example the inguinal, round, and Cooper's ligaments during open and laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair. To reproduce them, simulators use firm cord- or rubber-like materials that hold their shape and can anchor sutures, staples, or mesh, so trainees can recognise the landmark and judge the fixation forces involved. Two of those landmarks are described here because their own pages fold into this one. The inguinal ligament is a fibrous band running from the anterior superior iliac spine to the pubic tubercle along the inferior edge of the external oblique aponeurosis; it forms the floor of the inguinal canal. The round ligament of the uterus is a fibromuscular cord passing from the uterine cornua through the inguinal canal to insert into the labia majora, and is the female analogue of the spermatic cord.
