Chicken Wing is a raw poultry specimen used in medical simulation as the source of the brachial artery for microsurgical vascular anastomosis training. Cikla et al. (2020) show two whole wings among the per-session components of their Grapefruit dACA bypass model (Figure 4A), which needs two arterial segments; the skin is removed from the ventral side of the wing to expose the brachial artery along the shaft of the humerus, and the extracted vessel is 5–6 cm long. Vessel quality is higher from fresh wings than from thawed ones.[1] Akdag et al. (2024) dissect a chicken wing for the recipient vessel of their STA-MCA bypass trainer, alongside a turkey wing for the donor, choosing both for accessibility, low cost and calibre match.[2] Handling is subject to food-safety and biological-waste protocols.
