The Mussel is a containment unit for the intake of pumps. It makes it possible, or easier, to remove any liquid from a source which would normally be difficult for pumps to access, for example the last water in the bottom of a silty reservoir.

The suction pick-up is held in the centre of 2 opposing convex disks, similar in appearance to a mussel or similar shellfish.

It is claimed that the Mussel reduces blockages, inefficiencies, breakdowns and operation downtime. Placement is also easier - it can even be thrown in, as it automatically orientates itself correctly.
