It makes it possible, or easier, to remove any liquid from a source which would normally be difficult for pumps to access, for example the last water in the bottom of a silty reservoir.\n\nThe suction pick-up is held in the centre of 2 opposing convex disks, similar in appearance to a mussel or similar shellfish.\n\nIt is claimed that the Mussel reduces blockages, inefficiencies, breakdowns and operation downtime. Placement is also easier - it can even be thrown in, as it automatically orientates itself correctly.\n\n== External links ==\n\n* [http://web.archive.org/web/20140501060223/http://www.abc.net.au:80/tv/newinventors/txt/s1509846.htm The Mussel] on ''The New Inventors'' (Australian TV program), 27 April 2005.\n\n<!-- Old URL http://www.abc.net.au/newinventors/txt/s1351357.htm -->\n\n{{Page data\n| license = CC-BY-SA-3.0\n}}\n\n[[Category:Water supply]]"}
