SandboxDB/Tissues/Bile Duct
Bile duct is the tubular conduit that carries bile from the liver and gallbladder to the duodenum. The extrahepatic biliary system comprises the common hepatic duct, the cystic duct from the gallbladder, and the common bile duct formed by their union. Cystic-duct insertion anatomy varies considerably between individuals — including parallel-trajectory distal insertion, medial middle-third insertion, and medial distal-third insertion patterns. Accurate identification of these variants during laparoscopic cholecystectomy is essential for safe dissection at the hepatic hilum and for avoiding bile-duct injury.
