The goal of the SELF simulator-based training module on diverting colostomy in pediatric surgery is to equip health professionals working in resource-constrained environments with the clinical judgment, technical principles, and post-operative care skills required to safely divert the fecal stream, control contamination or obstruction, and stabilize children for recovery or later definitive surgery, while minimizing complications.

The module emphasizes that creating a safe colostomy is often a protective, damage-control decision, not a failure of definitive surgery.
