About the challenge
[edit | edit source]To create a green network of volunteers to work on organic farms WWOOF is a worldwide movement linking volunteers with organic farmers and growers to promote cultural and educational experiences based on trust and non-monetary exchange, thereby helping to building a sustainable global community.
Description
[edit | edit source]WWOOF has had various meanings over the years from the original Working Weekends on Organic Farms to the more recent World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. However as a loose organisation it's purpose remains to bring together organic farmers and volunteers who often help on the farms for short stays in exchange for food and lodgings. The exchange provides labour for farmers when they most need it while the volunteer may be wanting to learn skills or simply to find short term accommodation while back backing etc. 60 countries have a national WWOOF network.
