The Air Bottle Conditioner is a "zero electricity" cooling device that uses a grid of cut PET bottles mounted in a window to reduce indoor temperatures without any power source. It provides a passive cooling method for dwellings using discarded plastic bottles as the core material.
The device is made by cutting a sturdy board to the size of the window it will be installed in, then cutting holes in the board sized to match the rim of a PET bottle, spaced far enough apart to accommodate each bottle's body. Using a knife, PET bottles are cut in half crosswise, and the tops of the bottle caps are carefully cut away to create an open channel. The cut bottles are then mounted into the board's holes and secured by screwing the bottle caps onto the exposed threads from the opposite side. The completed panel is fixed into the window with the bottlenecks facing inward, toward the interior of the room.
The cooling effect relies on the Venturi effect: as hot air enters the wide end of each bottle, the gas contracts as it approaches the narrower rim, causing a drop in pressure. This pressure drop increases the air's velocity as it exits through the narrow bottleneck, producing a cooling effect as the air enters the room.
