[edit] Filtration by sugar palm fiber
In Madura, Indonesia, I have been told that fibers from the aren sugar palm tree are effective in filtering water, and remain effective for quite a long time (i.e. don't break down quickly in water). I wasn't able to find out where exactly on the tree the fibres come from. In the project I was involved with (1999-2000), the local people built their filter using sand gravel and the aren fibers as the media, and reported good results. --Singkong2005(now known as Chriswaterguy) 01:37, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
