Mace is the dried lacework cover (aril) that surrounds the seed of several trees from the genus Myristica.[1] The seed under the mace is nutmeg.[1]

The mace blades are a bright red when harvested (see image above). When dried, the colour turns to a burnt or deep orange, orange-brownish colour.

Mace tastes similar to nutmeg.
