Simple banners are not very effective means to convey messages to spectators on sidewalks or to television viewers. Posters that are carried with poles cannot be read from all sides, and those that are carried at chest level are even less readable. Songs and chants are often misunderstood or not heard at all. The success of a demonstration often hangs on how the media portrays and discusses it.

With Democamp units the attention of the media will be drawn, and the sayings will be high above the people's heads and easily read. The units also offer protection in bad or rainy weather, and also during the night.

The bamboo construction is very stable and also very light. In the case of difficulties with the police or other troubles the units will not become a problem. The material is inexpensive and is easy to stand up when needed.

How to build the DemoCamp units

• The light towers made from bamboo rods can be quickly put together at the edge of a demonstration or even before the demonstration begins.
• The same construction can be used as a tent, with the banners acting as the tent covering.
• The single units need to be constructed ahead of time out of wire and bamboo.

Posters of different sizes and shapes can be hung off of the towers. The fact that they will be hung above the crowds means that the posters will be able to be read from a greater distance. Bamboo rods that are 2.1 meters long will be put together with diagonal wire connections. The bamboo rods are easy to transport, and can be put together in minutes at the edge of a demonstration. The basic structure always remains the same, but it can be transformed into many different forms very easily. In each unit 4 people can sleep, and it is high enough that a person can stand up inside it. If you prefer to build the unit as a Square rather than a triangle, it can be used as an improvisational office or room. If the unit is covered with heat-blocking foil, it can be used as a place to recover from sunstroke. Bamboo is the ideal material, because of its lightness it is possible for 3 people, one standing on each corner, to put the entire unit together. In addition, if the unit were to fall on a crowd, injuries would be light because of the lightness of construction.
