Academic and Professional Background[edit | edit source]

My name is Shahrzad Jahangiri and I am a prospective PHD applicant. I am an electrical engineer with specialize in Power electronics with in-depth knowledge about soft switching techniques as well as hands-on experience in a designs and development of the power electronics, analog and digital circuits. Strong background in the circuit simulation software (PSpice, PSIM, and Matlab), modeling and prototyping of power supplies and developing high efficiency, high power density converters.

Thesis Research Topic[edit | edit source]

New Single-Switch Soft-Switching Forward Flyback DC-DC Converter with Pulse-Width Modulation Control under the supervision of Dr. m. Delshad.

In this dissertation, an auxiliary circuit has been added to the flyback-forward converter to provide soft switching conditions for the only circuit switch to reduce switching losses and increase the frequency which has an advantage over other PWM converters with soft switching due to having an active switch and not having an auxiliary switch, as well as no need for additional drive circuits and more complex control. Also, because the control of the switch remains PWM, it is preferable to resonant converters and since energy transfer to the output occurs both when the switch is on and off, its power density increase which helps to reduce the size of the proposed converter. Additionally, it does not require a reset core of the transformer, which also reduces the number of circuit elements.

My research focuses on Power electronics, Soft-Switching, High-Frequency Power Conversion, Renewable & Sustainable Energy Conversion Systems, Solar Energy Systems - Solar Thermal Solar Cells, Energy productivity and applied sustainability, which is the application of science and innovation to ensure a better quality of life now and into the future, Specifically I am interested in exploring the way renewable energy and solar energy can be used to provide clean sustainable electricity through photovoltaic devices.
