A page to discuss Appropedia's SEO strategies
"How to's" strategy[edit | edit source]
In November 2021 we've changed all the "Compost bin projects" titles to a "How to make a compost bin" kind of title. Despite we've decided to check the results the first days of January, some ideas already come to mind.
Issue 1: Hidden search results[edit | edit source]
Google has already indexed these pages but the results will not be shown even by searching "How+to+make+a+compost+bin+Appropedia" because it was categorized as "similar content":
Issue 2: Search intent[edit | edit source]
- Are this pages matching search intent for "How to make a compost bin"? [1]
Although they show how a compost bin was made, maybe users are looking for a generic "How to page" because of the simplicity of the format. If this is so, we won't be matching searcher's intent and therefore we won't rank in google for the keyword "How to make a compost bin"
Issue 3: Ranking difficulty[edit | edit source]
Are we actually competing in that keywords field?
- Backlinks: Despite Appropedia has 342,311 backlinks, these projects have none
- Domain rating [2] of Appropedia is 77, so we are competing at the same level with two of the top pages
- Topical authority: Appropedia is the sustainability wiki, therefore it is probably considered an authority in the subject by google [verification needed]
