About me[edit | edit source]
Some appropedian user pages tell their life story or reveal all sorts of interesting details about themselves, whilst others define their interests and values. I want to do neither, because I do not want to tempt the reader to stereotype me — so a few boxes to the right is all you get.
Dove is my username. I began contributing to Appropedia in 2018. After a few weeks of vandal fighting, discussing and patrolling new pages, and assisting new editors, I have done over 1000 edits on Appropedia. My goal is to continuously apply the knowledge and experience I've gained throughout my life in order to help improve Appropedia.
However, if you read on down, you'll find more about my work on Appropedia.
Have fun! Be kind! Be bold. And, whatever you do, don't bite the new editors!
You are likely to find me reverting vandalism and other inappropriate edits all over Appropedia. These days I am mostly using STiki.
I create some content, although my articles tend to be stubs and usually on English subjects (incidentally, I am English). I'm mostly drawn to nature, trees and other popular culture subjects, but anti-vandalism work also introduces me to various other types of articles, which certainly is not a bad thing. Occasionally I do gnomish work too, fixing grammar, adding refs and stuff like that. I do appreciate constructive feedback, especially if I make a mistake, so you are most welcome to visit my talk page.
I do not check my email regularly.
If you're not on IRC, you'll typically run into me through Huggle, AIV, RFPP, UAA, or in various other places where vandalism and trolling is taking place. I've been vandal patrolling for over 1 week now. I started in 2018 by performing each revert and leaving warnings completely manually. I started using Twinkle and Lupin's tool, and eventually found myself using other tools. After the rollback flag became unbundled from the admin toolset, I expanded my involvement. People often ask me why I spend so much time doing it. The answer is simple: I enjoy it. Everyone on Appropedia should be volunteering in places they enjoy. Otherwise, what's the point? :-)Contact[edit | edit source]

Appropedia likes and dislikes[edit | edit source]
- gender-neutral language
I dislike:
- missing edit summaries; they only take a second or two, but make life a lot easier for everyone else.
- when people think they "own" a stub article
I am usually a reasonably placid and easy-going sorta person, but I believe that when people repeatedly breach any of the foregoing principles, they should be cruelly punished.
It has been suggested that being forced to listen to Barry Manilow would be an appropriate form of retribution, but I am inclined to think that this is too cruel and extreme. Maybe something milder would do, such as being boiled in oil. (Supportively and non-violently]], of course, with plenty of WikiLove, and tongue very firmly in cheek).Quotes that speak for me[edit | edit source]
- "A loving heart is the beginning of all knowledge." - Thomas Carlyle
- "The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge, but imagination" - Albert Einstein
- "Raise your words, not your voice. It is the rain that grows flowers, not thunder." - Rumi
- "Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings." - Salvador Dali
- "Believe that life is worth living and your belief will help create the fact." - William James
- "I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see." - John Burroughs
- "What care I how time advances? I am drinking ale today." - Edgar Allen Poe
- "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whiskey is barely enough." - Mark Twain
- "Money is not the goal, the real value comes from education." - Jimmy Wales
