• I Find it facinating and inspiring to know that there are many ways to accomplish the same task, yet in our society it has become common to find that people get so set in their ways and traditions that it becomes hard to see other options. One of my aspirations and goals in the field of appropriate technology is to uncover and make attractive the other, more appropriate ways to accomplish the tasks that our society desires to accomplish.
• Appropriate technology helps people and communities to become more self reliant and less dependent on outside inputs such as food and fuel. Many people, myself included, are worried about the problems that may arise from depleting petroleum sources. I feel that the implementation of appropriate technology, especially those technologies that use primarily local materials and labor, are a key step to help prepare for the future effects of depleting resources.

• I have taken two courses at Cal Poly Humboldt that are designed to indroduce students to a number of usable and practical appropriate technologies.
• I have lived on numerous organic farms, mostly in New Zealand, and have come in contact with a wide range of practices and concepts that can easily be classified as appropriate technology.
