Sawbones is a brand of commercial synthetic bone models made by Pacific Research Laboratories (Vashon, Washington, USA). Its rigid polyurethane foam blocks are used as standardised bone substitutes in orthopaedic device testing, supplied with a cortical layer over cancellous foam of stated density, and are selected for their standardised and reproducible mechanical properties.[1]

Bone Lumbar Laminectomy and Dural Closure Simulator (Bakhshi) Rigid polyurethane foam blocks with a cortical layer over cancellous foam of stated density, selected for standardised and reproducible mechanical properties.[1] Each simulator carried an L1–S1 spine model; the paper states the spine model is made of saw-bone material, and its lamina is the target of the laminectomy. The paper does not name a manufacturer or state the material composition.[2]
