Sausage is a low-cost, widely available processed-meat product with a soft, tubular form and a colour resembling exposed bowel. In medical simulation those properties let it stand in for intestinal loops (bowel) as protruding viscera.[1] Being perishable, sausage-based models are effectively single-use.[1]
