TissueDB/Materials/Pork Skin

CC0
Pork skin (porcine integument) is the complete skin-subcutaneous tissue layer from pig specimens. Fresh or frozen pork skin contains realistic epidermis, dermis, and adipose tissue, and is widely used for tactile and visual realism in basic surgical skills training including suturing, incision, and wound closure.
Tissues
| Tissue | Visual | Tactile | Simulator | Notes | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Skin | Yes | Yes | Fresh or preserved (glycerol) pork skin. | Skin texture and color closely match human integument. Realistic suture hold and tissue handling characteristics. | |
| Subcutaneous Tissue | Yes | Yes | Intact pork skin with full-thickness subcutaneous layer. | Mimics realistic tissue plane separation during dissection and closure. | |
| Fascia | Yes | Yes | Intact pork skin specimen with fascia plane. | Fascia plane separates skin from deeper structures; provides distinct resistance feedback during layer-by-layer closure. |
