Dried beans are legume seeds used in medical simulation as a small, firm solid body set inside a soft substrate. The documented use is the nodule model in the UGHE Low-Cost Soft-Tissue Simulation Module, where a kidney bean is used instead of lotion to stand in for a solid subcutaneous lesion, and the bean is the lesion the trainee excises.[1] The bean cost US$0.03 per model in Rwanda.[1]
