Porting content to Appropedia[edit source]

PermaWiki and the permaculture content on Wikipedia have a close relationship. Graham Burnett was an early Wikipedia user (circa 2002), who added a lot of the permaculture content there (including starting the permaculture article itself, and the ubiquitous forest garden layer image). He started PermaWiki with a lot of content copied from Wikipedia circa 2006. Since then he has ceased involvement with Wikipedia, and the permaculture content there has changed dramatically. Often for the better, but likely much of value has also been removed.

So in order to make sure that Appropedia ends up with the best version of all of the content I propose to do this: First, port the articles from PermaWiki. Some content there will not be ported: undeleted spam, likely copyright violations, listings for now past events*, etc. After that is completed, go back through the edit history of the corresponding Wikipedia article (if such exists), and merge in the best/ most relevant content to Appropedia. This will be an intricate process, but I think it will be worth it.

  • Might make exceptions if there's anything of lasting value.
