No redirects[edit source]

I have redirected 4Rs to this glossary (woop). Problem is, how do you now stop it showing up as a page in the list? Joeturner 13:08, 17 April 2013 (PDT)

Do you mean like this?
 • 4Rs - (sustainability) reduce, reuse, recycle, recover (energy)...
--RichardF 14:00, 17 April 2013 (PDT)
Not really. If there is a redirect, there is a page. which might be a problem given the glossary is showing links (it is a blue link even though it just redirects back to the glossary). I made a new template which means that the blue link doesn't loop back to the glossary. I can't think of a better solution at the moment.. Joeturner 14:07, 17 April 2013 (PDT)
I see no need or value in linking to a self-referencing redirect. That's actually an incorrect use of the no redirect template. The actual link now should look like this.
*4Rs - which would display as I showed above.
 • 4Rs -

The related step for low importance redirect pages is to bypass all the redirects to them and then delete the redirect. I did that for 4Rs. --RichardF 16:51, 17 April 2013 (PDT)
Ah-ha, bingo that makes a lot more sense. I'll make a page for the ChriswaterguyBot to notify the redirects which need bypassing. Sorry, I was having a brain malfunction last night, I don't know why I didn't think of that. Here's to reducing the number of low value pages..Joeturner 00:31, 18 April 2013 (PDT)
Thanks for all the work, fellas - just wondering, why delete the redirects? --Chriswaterguy 02:31, 18 April 2013 (PDT)
I deleted the redirects because they were low importance, low view pages with no remaining wikilinks to them. The only good reason to keep them would have been to redirect manually entered searched for the pages. ...Really?! ;-) --RichardF 03:31, 18 April 2013 (PDT)
I guess that if we can get all the contents of hundreds of pages onto one page, it is counter-intuitive to recreate pages which only exist to redirect. Also in all fairness I doubt anyone is seriously going to be looking for any of these pages (as they are, by definition, ones which contain very little information). The few links that exist will go directly to the relevant glossary (hopefully with the work being done by the bot) and the glossary will come up if anyone searches directly for the term with the searchbox. End result - hopefully a lot tidier Appropedia! Joeturner 02:52, 18 April 2013 (PDT)

Adding interwiki links with MyRegexTester[edit source]

I tried the search and replace strings for adding interwiki links with MyRegexTester on a small group of terms here. It worked just fine. I can add the rest this way without too much effort. I'll then remove them from the existing links. The next step would be for someone to decide if a red link here is worth keeping - a sufficiently "wanted page". If not, the red link can just be removed and the interwiki link will do. --RichardF 19:16, 17 April 2013 (PDT)

The W links be done and Joe be chasin' me unreddin' 'em! :-) --RichardF 08:01, 18 April 2013 (PDT)
Done that. now to find 'low importance' pages to add to the glossary and then delete. Joeturner 00:57, 19 April 2013 (PDT)
It's like a plan! Number of articles on 2013/04/16: 5401. Number of articles now: 5375. Somehow, we have a net loss of 26 articles!  :-0 ;-) --RichardF 05:48, 19 April 2013 (PDT)
That'll be me and my ruthless editing/deleting finger. Just to say that there is no net loss of content, anything useful has been added to the glossary. Joeturner 05:54, 19 April 2013 (PDT)
Yeah, maybe we need a character count to keep track of how many minor pages are need to form a critical mass! :-) --RichardF 10:48, 19 April 2013 (PDT)

Linking directly to glossary terms with the id tag[edit source]

Pages can link directly to specific glossary terms with the id tag as shown with the "4Rs" and "carbon dioxide" examples below. The id tag works just like a section header.

Glossary page
<span id="4Rs"></span>
*4Rs - ...

Two or more tags can be used like this.

<span id="carbon dioxide"></span> <span id="CO2"></span>
*carbon dioxide – ...
Linking pages
* 4Rs
* carbon dioxide
* CO2
