Vision for the portal[edit source]
This portal started off as a way to collect and develop actionable information centered on reducing infections using non-pharmaceutical interventions in a respiratory pandemic, where we now know most of the transmission is via aerosols. These interventions are basically about reducing respiratory contacts or protecting them. They should be at the forefront of the portal. This would make it clear what's directly useful and what is in need of development.
Many elements of the current page are secondary to that goal: either strategic (see strategies), educational (see metaphors), investigative (see how to develop each intervention, and see pandemic flu game) or simply philosophical rather than directly actionable. This secondary content should be relegated to secondary pages. It would provide interested readers with background, context and motivation.
There's a very special page, about a scenario in which a severe pandemic would start before preparedness has advanced substantially, which should be linked to in the main index.
The main index could look like this:
- BaACKGROUND information and links: respiratory pandemics and strategies to control them
- Science and education about TRANSMISSION
- Strategies to REDUCE the number of risky respiratory contacts (this would include testing, apps, etc)
- Protecting respiratory contacts with VENTILATION (this would include measuring CO2)
- Protecting respiratory contacts with FILTRATION
- Protecting respiratory contacts with UV or physical elimination of the virus (as there are other methods)
- Protecting respiratory contacts with RESPIRATORS (and "lesser" masks, i.e. surgical, with ADJUSTERS), including elastomerics
- A special scenario: "EARLY and SEVERE"
- Proposal for a pandemic flu game
