Solar Photo Voltaic spray on film is a brand new technology currently under development. The company EnSol has patented the technology and is in the process of further development. What this technology seeks to do is turn any surface (including windows) into an energy generating PV cell. Information surrounding the technology is sparse, but the general principle of the technology's functioning is a transparent composite matrix film that contains embedded metallic nano-particles.

The implications of this new technology will be heavily dependent on its cost to power production ratio. If it could be competitive even with current solar technology, it could become increasingly easier to implement solar technology for several reasons: 1) The film will be less aesthetically disconcerting 2) roof space will no longer be a limiting factor 3) could provide insulation to solar thermal panels (combining heat and electricity generation).
