Saltpeter is a chemical compound NaNO3 and KNO3. It is mainly used in the manufacture of acids (nitric, sulfuric) and potassium nitrate; in addition it is an oxidating agent and it is occupied in agriculture like nitrogen fertilizer that can replace the urea by its high nitrogen content. Other uses are in the manufacture of dynamite, explosives, pyrotechnics, medicine, glass, phosphorus, gases, salts of sodium, pigments, preservative of foods, enamels for pottery, et cetera.
