The goal of the SELF simulator-based training module on open appendicectomy for pediatric appendicitis is to enable health professionals working in resource-constrained settings to safely diagnose, prepare for, perform, assist with, and manage children undergoing open appendicectomy, while minimizing complications and recognizing when referral or alternative management is required.
The module emphasizes sound clinical judgment, safe operative principles, and adaptable surgical technique that can be applied even when advanced imaging, laparoscopic equipment, or subspecialty support is limited.
