Long-Life Solar Water Pump

From Appropedia

Title: Long-Life Solar Water Pump for Off-Grid and Arid Regions

Summary: A new concept for a significantly more durable solar water pump designed for use in drought-prone, off-grid and remote agricultural areas. The approach focuses on using high-durability materials to extend service life and reduce maintenance.

Problem: Many conventional solar pumps suffer from relatively short service life due to corrosion, wear in bearings and seals, and degradation in harsh environments (high salinity, sand, extreme temperatures). This leads to frequent failures, high replacement costs and unreliable water supply for agriculture and drinking water in developing regions.

Solution:This project introduces a solar water pump concept based on advanced, highly corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant materials. A utility model (Gebrauchsmuster) has been filed and granted by the German Patent and Trade Mark Office.

Intended key advantages:

  • Significantly longer service life compared to standard solar pumps
  • Reduced maintenance requirements
  • Improved energy efficiency through lower friction losses
  • Suitable for harsh environmental conditions (saline water, high dust, extreme temperatures)

Current Status

  • Concept and material approach fully developed
  • German utility model granted
  • No physical prototype built yet
  • No field test results available yetI am actively looking for research partners, universities, engineering institutes or organizations interested in:
  • Material and component testing
  • Prototype development
  • Field testing in arid or off-grid regions
  • Joint research or development projects

Collaboration / LicenseThe technology is available for licensing, cooperative development or open-source collaboration depending on the partner.
