How to Search on Appropedia
1) Go to the web page of the search engine of your choice.
2) Type the word “Appropedia” and press the Enter key, or activate the search by clicking the corresponding button. Click on the first result. Another option is to directly enter the address of Appropedia (www.appropedia.org) in the navigation bar.
3) The Appropedia page will open. To perform a search, you must enter the name or keyword of what you are looking for in the navigation bar located in the upper right corner. As you write, and similar to other search engines, a list of results containing the word you have written will be displayed and you can access them by clicking on it.
Another option for your searches is to do it by categories or by article. On the right side of the main page you will find the option to search by category or article. If you feel a little adventurous you can try to find something of your interest in this way, but if not, we invite you to continue doing it as you would do a common search through the search bar.
For demonstration purposes, we will look for “climate change solutions”.
4) As soon as you click Enter, the server will search in Appropedia for the word you have entered. If your search matches any of the articles, the server will take you directly to the article or, if there is no related one, Appropedia will make a series of recommendations for articles similar to your search.
At Appropedia we recognize the historic opportunity of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and we are exploring how appropriate technology contributes to this agenda. For this reason, we have developed a new way of searching for projects on our website according to the SDGs. Just type in the navigation bar www.appropedia.org/search and the following page will appear:
If you have any kind of knowledge about appropriate technology (AT) projects, we invite you to enter the keyword in the keyword bar.
But if you're new to all this and want to know the projects that are compiled in each SDGs, click on the dropdown menu. This time we'll search SDG number 2, zero hunger. Click on "search".
The entire list of projects within "SDG02 Zero hunger" will show up. For demonstration purposes, we'll click on the first search result, 3D Printable Cider Press.
You can now navigate within the website and learn about projects that help to overcome the main challenges that society faces, from the fight against climate change to the eradication of poverty and economic and social progress.
